another very average morning on MW and yet again the same old stations coming in. i have never had a decent id from KFAN on 1130 and this morning at 06.00 it was strong but did it id go on ask me ... DID IT HELL all i got was right here on ESPN sports. i thought the law over in the USA that a station had to id at toth or in certain intervals. personally any station that doesn't id at toth the program manager or whatever should be taken outside and birched lol!
i was chatting to ken last night on the radio and he was telling me that something didn't sound quite right on the MW band ie the bottom of the band was completely dead but there was a few stations at the hf side of the band. even this morning he thought something was wrong so he took a walk down his beverage and he found that some branches had come down under the weight of the snow and snapped his beverage.
he went into his pockets to get the wire strippers etc and he found he had forgot them HA HA HA HA LOL! so he had to walk back to his shack in the deep snow and then walk back again LOL that will teach him to laugh at me when i got visitors the other night that i didn't like or have nothing in common with lol.
the snow is still coming here and my neighbor went shopping yesterday afternoon and on the way back the 10 mile or so journey took 4 hours !!!!! and she wasn't in the best of moods when she got back lol but this is to women everywhere WHY DO YOU LEAVE CHRISTMAS SHOPPING TO THE LAST MINUTE !!!!!!

well the weather is as bad as the MW conditions very bad and the wife saying this is going to be a great white Christmas well for me you can shove your white christmas where the sun don't shine I HATE THE SNOW.
the thing i hate apart from the cold, wet, roads closing etc etc is as you know my antenna is in the attic and i am pretty sure when i have a few feet of snow laying on the roof it attenuates the signals on MW and when there is a heavy snow shower its brings some static etc as if the MW band isn't noisy enough.
the picture below was taken by ken looking up the main street in my village and ken has a few more on his own website.
i have been using the SDR console which Alan Doherty in Ireland asked me to try and its similar to global tuners but without the hastle of other users and no delays in the audio etc and i was able to log in to Alan"s radio and control it if it was my own and you can change filters modes etc etc and there is a good waterfall etc for seeing the signals as well. i did try a few others but they were mostly ham related but there was one which i logged into from Canada which was dedicated to MW dx which was fun trying to log UK stations which i heard virgin or whatever they call themselves today on 1215.
all in all a good system and you can compare your own signals to what other dxers are getting or try dxing from the other side of the world and see how hard or easy other dxers have it.

still not alot to report over the past few days though i did receive CBX Edmonton on 740 and CHQR Calgary on 770 this morning but not much else. there is still a good peak from 22.00 utc to 00.00 utc but the so called dawn peak is still rather disappointing. snow hail and freezing wind as i type it cant get any worse can it .....

again the so called dawn peak wasn't up to much this morning and personally i think from 23.00 - 00.00 is better. nothing too much apart from a nice id from WTNY watertown NY on 790 at 05.00 utc.
in these conditions i really struggle with the indoor antenna as ken and Paul over in troon have had some great logs. KBRW barrow Alaska on 680 was in again yesterday with a good signal but really low audio and i sent the station an email telling them this but no reply. when music is playing it sounds ok but as soon as talking begins the audio is really too low.
i also had weak music on 670 at the same time but no id which could be KDLG Dillingham and 780 was in again with weak audio. as i type 14.30 utc KBRW carrier is starting to come up lets hope they took notice of my email.

not alot to report the past few days as the band has been very average but the Manitoba stations have been coming in early ie starting at 23.00 utc. this morning was well below average on the recordings i have checked but i got bored rather quickly listening to the same old stations. lets hope it picks up again soon.

conditions were a bit down on the past few days but Calgary and Manitoba were logged as early as 00.00. i got a nice id from CHSM steinbach Manitoba on 1250 in German and i think that's the first time i have heard it broadcast in German. again CFRW CKMX CHQR were all logged but nothing new and i think the k index did rise at some point this morning which accounts for the rather average conditions this morning.
KBRW barrow Alaska was heard again today on 680 at various times this afternoon but i really wish they would crank up the audio as it sounds really low and muffled. weak carriers were noted on 780 and 970 but nowhere near audio level.
there have been a couple of new additions to the skype MW dx chat and cluster Alan Doherty from portrush in Ireland who has a kenwood ts 850 on global tuners and gets some amazing dx from his location and also guy Atkins a well known MW dxer from Seattle Washington. anyone wishing to be added to the chat or cluster just send KEN a message on skype scottish_DXer_ken

again conditions seemed to favor Vancouver Calgary & Manitoba this morning and finally i got an id from CHMB vancouver on 1320 but nothing else new was heard.
again these stations started early ie 00.00 utc and the band faded around 09.30 utc with me. again KOMO & KJR Seattle were logged
i got a nice surprise around 18.15 as reports from down south were indicating that band 2 was open to Spain so i put on the vhf TV and there was Spain with nice video and audio on e2 BUT i haven't used it since the sporadic e season and the d100 wasn't plugged in the video cable from the TV to the PC was out and i couldn't find the plug for the icom pcr1000 so nothing was recorded but all in all a nice surprises at this time of year.
as i type 18.46 utc the video carrier from tve is still hanging in there but way off video level.
