it seems the flag has a bit more direction than i first thaught as ken alerted me this morning of plenty of ss stations but very little heard here and hopefully by moving the flag to the NW will boost the north american log"s. i didnt think it would matter by putting the flag to the west as i would have thought it would have a wide lobe but the first couple of test"s have proved otherwise BUT! more to come incase its just conditions.
i will put up another flag at some point as i do enjoy receiving the latins etc i find them a real pain to id but the guys on the REALDX yahoo group are a great help.
i noticed the other morning on 750 that cbc have changed to CBC NETWORK NEWS or just CBC NEWS and that the familiar jingle was dropped which made that one very easy to id.
another personal first this morning with WURN kendall florida on 1020 and also a rare id from WKOX newton ma on 1200 as it is once in a blue moon that it actually id"s. i also got WOND pleasantville nj on 1400 over the usual dominant cbc. RARE ID WKOX 1200
last night - this morning it was the case of what i didnt receive rather than what i did receive. the flag is now about 290 deg and the first test was last night and on 740 when my flag was to the west brazil was usually the dominant station but there was no trace of it and canada was very strong but hard to tell if it was conditions or not as i didnt have another flag to the west for a a/b test.
again when my flag was to the west globo on 1100 and 1220 were usually the first to show but no sign at all last night and even on my overnight recordings not much latin or carib heard apart from mexico on 1060 but again it could have been just conditions.
when moving the flag to the NW it certanly has changed the back lobes on it ie 810 my local radio scotland when the flag was to the west i could null it enough for a ss station to mix and sometimes come over it but no chance with it to the NW but it has left 1270 quite clear as when the flag was to the west 1270 was a difficult one to get. 850 suffers from less splatter from radio north on 846 and its hard not to get the dutch well down on 747 and 1008 with the variable resistor as i have to remind myself they are not on the backside of the flag now.
i really must get another flag up to the west so i can do a A/B test as this last nights/this mornings lack of latins etc could just be down to conditions. i was receiving basicly the same as what ken was getting on his beverage last night and this morning but at lower levels probably but time will tell if there is any advantages or disadvantages with it to the NW. more results as i get hem
what a frustrating morning as mw was wide open to latin america etc BUT! it was mostly music and very little talk how the latins can find music that lasts 10 mins long i will never know and just the duration of my recordings.
also as usual when i did find strong talk they faded at toth and i am sure the engineer"s turn the power down at toth just to anoy us dxer"s. again RADIO MUNDO in argentina was heard on 1070 and RADIO BUENOS AIRES on 1350 also a good id from CIWW on 1310 which has been heard quite good the past few days have they upped the power or changed antenna i wonder.
i was talking to ken as usual on the radio today and he was saying i get good latin and carribean etc logs and wondered what would happen if i put my flag to the NW as i have always had it to the west but it seemed to do not bad to north america etc.
i am one of those dxers who thinks if it aint broke dont fix it but earlier this after noon the flag was moved to the NW and will keep it there for a few days and see what the results are and if my latin logs go down.
i have always used holland on 747 or 1008 for my back null and i have to get those out of my head now as they are not on the back of the flag and i have nulled out the czech station on 954 but its a wee bit strange seeing the dutch coming in slightly stronger at this time of night 1740 as i type where as when the flag was to the west i would be getting spain.
as i said i will leave it to the NW for a week or so just to see the difference if any but hopefully it will bring my north american logs up a wee bit as the past few weeks its been all latin"s. results as i get them ......
this morning was all cuba and very strong but just the regular ones ie rebelde and reloj etc which i have had many times before and nothing really interesting from north america. i could go on and type up each day WINS CFRB etc etc but it would make boring reading and also i just cant be bothered with the usual logs :-) lets hope for some unusual dx tommorow
again very average on mw this morning and the only two worth noting were 1250 R CAPITAL bogota 06.02 utc & 1400 HJKM EM MARIANA de bogota 06.00 utc. CIWW ottowa was very strong most of the morning with its oldies 1310 id but thats about it for another day unless my head can go through some more hiss and splatter.
i did go through some more hissss and had the bbc world service on 700 at around 05.12 utc which is presumed to be St Vincent (NBC) thanks to paul in troon for the help.
mw was showing a bit more life this morning and i got another personal first 1070 R EL MUNDO buenos aires argentina at 01.00 & 02.00 & 03.00 utc.
WRKO boston on 680 at 06.38 utc was quite good well over the usually dominant cftr 680 news and some VERY strong signals from wbbr wabc wcrn etc it was good to see the strong signals but not much "dx" coming through.
there was another ss station mixing with R REBELDE on 670 which was very strong itself and also heard it on 600 at 06.38 utc. i have still quite a few recordings to go through but its finding the time to listen to them all.
the recordings of WRKO & R EL MUNDO are on my youtube page
not much chance of dx on 1130 when WBBR is sounding like this WBBR 1130
still very poor on mw and the only thing of interest was a english id of WUNR on 1600 so it shows you how bad it was when that one is the only one of interest.
from 06.08 onwards brazil was strong on 740 but i have had that one so many times i dont really count that as dx anymore.
as i type 16.29 i am listening "live" in the off chance that the far east opens up and thats what is so handy in finding out what resistor my flag likes as i have it on a switch so when the resistor is in use its beaming west and when not in use i have the figure 8 pattern so no messing around with a variable one each time i want to change direction.
the 540 ohm resistor i have might not cover the whole band well but its nulling the dutch station on 1008 which is center of the band which suits me fine. lets hope conditions pick up soon.
the band still seems to be affected by the solar flux rise from the other morning and nothing much to report this morning.
i did get a radio natonal ??? on 1140 just before 07.00 utc but it faded just at the wrong time i did think it was wqba but ken told me it was a yl on wqba and it was a om i was hearing.
R RELOJ cuba was heard on 950 just after 07.00 utc but thats about it apart from the regulars.
this mornings recordings have been deleted so plenty of time for other things like cleaning up my shack as its starting to look like kens and dont let those photos of his shack on his web fool you lol! but i must admit the two of us actually managed to get in together the other day and not fight past boat anchor radios and unfinished projects lol!
my shack is starting to look like frankenstiens lab and i think it looks great but try explaining to the wife that every wire laying around is needed and the soldering iron does need to be on all the time lol but my shack is in the attic and she is afraid of spiders so i am safe from her and her feather duster.
band conditions were still well below average due to the rise in the solar flux and nothing of interest noted this morning.
i have just received a mail from CFAM which is very good of them as reception report reply"s are few and far between
Oct. 23, 2009
David Hamilton Scotland

Thank you again for your letter and we wish you continued success in listening to distant radio stations. Perhaps you will have the opportunity to listen to some of our other stations.
Sincerely,
Laverne Siemens Dir. of Eng. Golden West Radio
KENS BEVERAGE UPDATE
well i didnt make it today i completely forgot all about it and i was watching a movie but ken has just informed me via the radio that he wasnt really in the mood to battle through the wood again and he was watching DALLAS !!!!! jeez that man has bad taste lol .
SONY XDR-F1HD
ken has done a very good reveiw on this so called super dx machine on band 2 and he has put it side by side with the sony sb sd 920 (which i also have with the rds chip inside the sony connected to the pc for super fast rds) you can read it here
when i was at kens place and the quick test we did the 920 was quicker to show rds which kens 920 has not been modded and for me in a sporadic e opening fast rds resolving is a must and with my sony"s rds chip connected to the pc and using esslinger rds software there is no contest in my opinion its the 920 for me.
the xdr might get stations next to locals etc etc but in a sporadic e opening i couldnt care less what comes in next to a local i want it to come over the local and i want the rds showing and audio recorded as quick as possible then move on to the next one but from what i have saw and what i have read you will be waiting a wee while for rds on the xdr and there is no simple way to connect the xdr to the pc yet.
another personal first today RADIO GUAMA bahia cuba on 1020 at 06.00 but i think k index went up at some point in the morning and the band was below average.
RADIO GUAMA 1020
SONY XDR F1HD on mw
ken did take delivery of his new sony and was keen to give it a try on mw with the chance of hd from the usa. how hard this will be will remain to be seen as i havent read or heard anyone trying it before apart from ken.
he did give it a try this morning and the hd light was flashing when he was on 880 1080 1100 1120 and 1200 and according to the manual the sony is detecting the hd but with the k index going up this morning conditions were down and i look forward to his results when conditions are better.
SONY XDR F1HD & WTIC
KENS BEVERAGE
this evening we finished off kens beverage with new supports and getting the wire higher and in the clear on the last 250m and off came the fixed resistor and on went the variable resistor but by the time we got finished it was dark and had new ground rods to go in so we will leave it untill tommorow then we shall look at dx atlas and choose which station is directly on the back of the beverage and to see if we can null it
just been a walk with ken down his beverage and were doing some repairs on it. most of the supports have been replaced and the wire has been put it the clear from the broken branches and bramble bushes that were growing round it.
the first half of the 500m beverage is alot higher than it was before and we fixed a new balun at the feed point. tommorow we will get the last part of the beverage up higher and new supports and we are taking the fixed resistor off and will be putting a variable one on to see if we can get a better back null.
only one log today CFAM manitoba on 950 at 03.00 utc. my neighbour kindly left their television on over night and completely destroyed mw i hope it blows up today.
below is cfam but not the best recording due to tv noise CFAM 950
what a frustrating band mw is the band was open but it seemed to be missing my area.
paul over in troon by the coast had some good logs this morning but just the regulars here but had the manitoba classical on 950/1250 and CFRW on 1290 from winnipeg but thats all i could really hear apart from the strong regulars.
the band was even open to 09.00 utc but all i got was cfrb with a tent cbr with cbs not sure about that one and the usuals. ken did get some good logs as well
0500 1640 KDIA 0600 1650 KFOX
but i didnt record x band this morning typical. there is a recording of CFRW from this morning on my youtube page.
mw was the same as yesterday POOR! and again recordings deleted already. when i talk about poor on my blog i am not saying there is no signals the regulars like CFRB WBBR etc etc are strong its just that there is no unusual ones or dx etc.
THE BOAT THAT ROCKED i am going to plug a movie and if you like broadcast pirate radio from the 60"s then this is the movie for you. its based on the offshore era of the 1960"s when the pirates had more listeners than the bbc which only broadcast rock "n" roll music for a few hours a week. its a simple enough plot really and by no means is it a documentary type movie but i would think it based on radio caroline etc and the way the goverment at the time tried to close it down and the way they invented laws just to do that.
rhys ifans and philip seymour hoffman are great in the movie and bring plenty of laughs and the music is brilliant and to see what life was like on a pirate ship in the 60"s certanly made me wish i was a 60"s teenager. it also makes you think what the goverment and the bbc wanted you to listen to in the 60"s when they went to all that trouble to change the law and even to invent new ones just to get the stations closed. i must say i really enjoyed the movie and have watched it quite a few times which films of today very rarley do. the boat that rocked
poor poor and VERY poor thats all i can say about this mornings conditions and recordings were deleted very early this morning. i have been listening to a perseus recording i had made in feb of this year and think i have found another personal first i will report later when someone has a listen. 1590 is still clear and long may it continue but trust the conditions to be bad when its clear.
here is a reply on the 870 wobbler received by ken baird
870 is another Radio Reloj outlet presumed location Sancti Spiritus. No Wobbler on it at the moment, 02:01 UTC, 10/17/09.
Seems Wobbler chasing is catching on as a trans-Atlantic activity. A year or so ago there was considerable interest here in the states, east coast to west. It must be a shift in propagation that is sending them your way.
Curt ------- W. Curt Deegan Boca Raton, (southeast) Florida, USA
the only thing of interest this morning was the manitoba classical on 950/1250 and thats about it my recordings deleted already so not much to talk about this morning on mw.
NOISE ..... the past few days i have had a couple of emails asking me about my noise level on mw infact the lack of noise i get when my flag antenna is inside the attic. for starters the village i am in is VERY rf quiet and at bedtime i have a routine to make sure everything electrical in my house is OFF! and i dont just mean on standby i unplug everything thats not needed to be on ie tv pc"s the only things that are left on is the freezer and the pc running the perseus and even the monitor for the pc is unplugged during overnight recordings.
its the same in the morning i get up and make sure no one has been up and left things on it may sound a bit over the top but every half a s point less in noise means that extra chance of a dx station coming in. its the same for my flag antenna and all i need to say about that is FERRITE get as much as you can at the receiver end and the feed point of the antenna and space some along your coax run as well as every bit helps especially on the mw band.
also watch out for mobile phone chargers as one morning i got up at my usual 05.00z and switched on the radio and all i got was BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ all over the mw band i went and checked everything was off and they were but still the noise so i thought it must be something in a neighbours house but then i noiticed my wife had left her mobile phone in its charger so it was unplugged and the band was checked again and this time it was clean no noise so it just goes to show the things you dont first think of can cause you problems.
another screen grab this time on 895 which is "presumed" VO NEVIS st kitts & nevis i have had audio from this but never an id. i find these grabs interesting as each station can have its own distinctive carrier. the screen grab was from 05.30 - 06.15 utc
VO NEVIS 895
this one is a live 45 min grab of RADIO GOTEL YOLA nigeria on 917 this evening note the pause in the carrier i wonder if the genarator run out or there was a coup and a new presenter was put in place LOL!. note its a wee bit off frequency as well
mw was well below average here and really nothing worth a mention i did get WVNA on 1590 again just after 06.00 utc and a good id of GLOBO brazil on 1220 when the splatter from 1215 was down but that was it it just shows mw goes from one extreme to the other ie yesterday 2 personal firsts and this morning just the regulars but as i have said before this what makes mw dxing so interesting.
i have been keeping an eye well more than usual on 1590 as the pest from 1593 has been off but just the usuals heard so far but one to keep an eye on as ken did get KVGB great bend again this morning but not heard here and also i have heard that the BIG L is coming back to 1395 jeez hopefully not more dx freqs lost i will just have to get my nulling deeper than ever
nothing much else to report again lets hope for good dx tommorow
another good reply from w.curt.deegan in florida regarding my 740 wobbler reception
You're racking up a nice collection of Wobblers!
I have a local on 740 so I can't hear anything else, though there have been reports of a Wobbler on 740 in the past.
The 930 Wobbler has been very strong for the last several days, even a bit more so than before. I'm not hearing one on 950 at the moment at 19:22 UTC, 10/15/09.
Thanks for keeping me informed.
Curt ------- W. Curt Deegan Boca Raton, (southeast) Florida, USA
didnt really have much time to check my files today but i still managed two personal firsts 1400 EM MARIANA DE BOGOTA colombia 07.00 utc 1250 R CAPITAL bogota colombia 07.00 utc
pretty sure i had manitoba on 1250 at 01.00 utc and again i had the sports on 950 with espn mentioned but again no use without an id. also i have to say well done to ken baird who got the following 1590 KVGB Great Bend KS 0706 utc i got the weather report but it faded at the id here
another wobbler noted on 740 this time at 07.00 utc and the wobblers on 930 and 950 are getting to be a real pest
the band was in good shape this morning but it seemed to need that extra something just to get it going hopefully the same and better tommorow. the recording of EM MARIANA is on my youtube page
i have just been on ken bairds website and was reading about the beverage he had out in the farmers land when it was not in use last year jeez it doesnt seem that long ago we were loaded up with wire & supports coax etc for the beverage and that day i learned a lesson that i will never forget DONT WALK BEHIND KEN WHEN HE HAS JUST HAD HIS DINNER.
its was a narrow pathway beside the river and i had no escape. it took us a couple of days to get the beverage up as we started each evening just before dark so the local kids couldnt see us and have a swing on it and boy did that beverage work well not that kens permantent beverage in the wood works bad but the one we put up in the clear seemed to have that extra "KICK" to it on receiving signals you can read the full story on it on ken"s website http://www.ayrshirehistory.eu/tadx/david_hamilton_04.html
dx secrets .....
there is some clubs and dxers who like to keep their dx and dx logs and files etc a big secret WHY!!!!! myself if i get a good dx station on mw or tvdx i am shouting it from the rooftops but there are some dxers who like to keep their dx VERY close to their chest. i can picture some of them sitting in a dark room receiving something very good and saying no one is getting to know that one and not even sharing their logs crazy really.
and for dx clubs and dxers having websites with secret passwords to get in just to see some logs or get files etc are these guys in some secret society called "lets keep the dx to ourself group" for me information is free well in scotland it is and i share my logs and ramblings to the world some might think its rubbish but the point is there is no passwords to get in and all the information on my blog and ken"s for that matter is for anyone who wants to read it or not.
imagine the hastle "the gentleman"s mw dx group" go to log into the web type first pass word in then go to the logs & files type password again and when you get past all the security and see the files & logs etc can you put this information on your own web or blog ... NO!!! even if you send ££££ for cds etc you still cant make this public or risk getting shot bloody hell do they think dxers are going to steal all this information and take over the world lol!
well thats my ramblings over for today as you can tell from below no dx so plenty of time for my general nonsense AND ITS ALL FREE !!!!!!
one thing is for sure no two days are the same on the mw band as yesterday the propagation was good but too many stations mixing and this morning the band was just rubbish. yes there was signals but well down. 1590 was clear for a change but nothing i have been through my recordings and found nothing of interest. i had ss on 840 at 06.30 utc but WHAS came over the top of it and had a good id from WSSP milwalkee wi on 1250 at the same time but again run of the mill stations i even checked the antenna as even the euro"s were down ie the ss on 1008 was well down than usual but antenna seems fine so it must just be bad conditions this morning
what another frustrating morning the band was open but yet again too many stations mixing with each other making id"s very difficult. i did manage to get WGVU kentwood mi on 1480 and either WMKT charlevoix mi or WXYT detroit mi on 1270 but very hard so wont claim that one.
CFAM altona manitoba was in again on 950 with classical music but as usual no id as far as i could hear and with sport mixing with it again but no id so very frustrating. i got a better KWKH shreveport id on 1130 but as i said most of the other freqs were just a rumble with all the other stations fighting it out with each other.
KWKH shreveport 1130
was listening out for KOMO on 1000 but WMVP was too strong most of the morning usually i wouldnt complain but WMVP is getting to be a bit of a pest like CFRB ( it doesnt use its call any more just news talk 1010). 1230 had audio for a change this morning but at the wrong time i heard sports around 06.20 utc but it had faded by 06.30 utc and it was good to see the band open at 07.00 utc and beyond.
i also received a nice email from brian hale from WCCW
Dear David
Please accept this as a letter of confirmation of your catching our station broadcast on September 10th 2009.
After listening to your recording via YouTube, I was able to confirm that you did indeed catch our station. Confirmation was rather easy as it was my voice on the station identification.
1310 ESPN WCCW features sports programming 24 hours a day. A bulk of our programming is provided by ESPN RADIO. We also feature play by play of the Detroit Red Wings, Pistons, Lions, and Tigers, as well as Michigan State University Football and Basketball.
Our staff is small, just me. I do have a couple of part time board operators to handle our game broadcasts.
WCCW stands for Cherry Capital Of the World. We celebrate our local cherry crop with an annual Cherry Festival which draws about 250,000 tourist to our area each summer. WCCW signed on the air as a 3000 watt Daytime only station in 1960. We were the first station in the area to feature Rock and Roll music as a Top 40 hit station. We have employed many different formats since the 60’s. We adopted the ESPN format in 2001, and in 2003 finally became a full time 24 hour station, broadcasting at 15,000 watts during the day and 7500 watts at night. Most of our ESPN programming comes to us via Satellite from their studios in Connecticut.
This is my first DX confirmation letter to a listener in Scotland. I’ve many from Norway and Finland, but not Scotland.
Sincerely, Brian R. Hale Operations Manager 1310 ESPN RADIO
so very happy with that as the returns on reception reports is very low and glad brian found the time to email back which made my day.
mw here in the south west of scotland seems to be in a bit of a same old stuff for the past few days there is strong signals but with wbbr wls wbbm its got a bit of the yaaaaaaaawn factor and there is only so much wbbr you can take lol. my flag is to the west and was tempted to put it to the north west to see if that would make any difference but with getting ckmx calgary the other day i thought if it aint broke .....
i will just have to keep making the recordings and GOD BLESS THE PERSEUS as there is no need to get up at 2am to see if the band is open or not for those who dont know all i do is set the perseus to record 3 mins before/after toth each hour i want and jobs a good un ... KOMO tommorow anyone lol!
VERY average on mw this morning and my recordings were deleted earlier this after noon dont get me wrong there were some strong signals but just from the run of the mill stations.
i did another screen grab this time on 1470 khz and as you can see another busy frequency and a couple of very distinctive carriers. the grab was from 06.00 - 06.44 utc 1470 khz 06.00 - 06.44 utc
propagation wise mw was great this morning at 06.00 - 06.30 utc but dx wise it was VERY difficult the band was just a rumble of all different stations competing with each other ie 1230 khz at 06.17 utc was just pure mush with all the different stations and 1130 khz had WBBR new york KFAN minneapolis and KWKH shreveport all fighting it out at the same time. i did get a good recording of WHBY kimberly wi which a recording is on my youtube page also just checking 830 khz as i think i have WCCO coming over the usualy dominant WCRN will post later if i get a decent recording of it.
another average morning on mw the only two worth noting were WAKR akron oh on 1590 khz and WCCW traverse city mi on 1310 khz both recordings on my youtube page and i finally i managed a good id of VOAR nfld on 1210 khz which is hard due to the qrm from 1215 khz .
its 2138 utc and canada at good levels already on mw but for some reason i have never really liked dx late at night i have always liked dawn maybe as its the quietest time of the day for me as i can put my feet up and dx and not get bothered ie at this time its dad do this dad do that or david fix this etc lol.
check out mark borthwick dx site some great vids on there http://scottish-dxing.yolasite.com/
it was below average on mw this morning despite the low A K index and nothing of real interest received here in the south west of scotland this morning. 04.00 utc was good for the regulars but no real dx noted and havent seen much else from the other scottish dxers. i have uploaded a clip to youtube of WFAN on 660 khz at 04.00 utc as i like to get good id"s like this hopefully conditions improve.
mw was quite average this morning nothing special noted i got a email reply from KSL
Hi, David Thanks for the report. Don’t get too many from the UK proper. We seem to hear mostly from Norway & Finland. Definitely was the KSL BYU post game show from Oct 2.
Regards, John Dehnel Chief Engineer KSL-AM/FM, KSFI, KRSP, BYU Radio Network
i had a sports station at 05.57 on 950 but no id and a good id of WPAT on 930 at 0600 utc but again just strong regulars
radio gotel yola was good again this evening around 21.33 utc but was getting a bit of noise from my daughters pc
this is a responce to the emails i get every now and then about the signal strength on some of my receptions.... i couldnt give a rats arse (... i couldnt care less .... for my over seas readers) about the signal aslong as i get the id it can be a signal 0 for all i care.
here is an example and first let me say that kens beverage blows my flag away but if you have an indoor antenna and take the time to get the noise down and a good back rejection they do actually work
would you be happy with my reception ... i certanly am
it was quite hard on mw this morning as alot of stations in the mush and hard to pick out id"s BUT!!! i got another personal first YVSM radio national venezuela on 1310 khz
YVSM 1310 khz
i also got a short id from BBN hamilton in bermuda on 1280 khz i was going to put it online but its one of those with low deep bassy audio and would rather wait until i get a better one. the usual stations from north america and canada were good most of the morning but i seemed to have a small window from 06.17 - 06.27 utc on my recordings which central america was good but at that time id"s are very scarce.
another screen grab this time on 1010 khz but kens grab was made on the 26 of september and mine was made this morning so the propagation would certanly have been different but again ken getting carriers i am not and vice versa. the two main tones are probably CFRB & WINS but as you can see plenty more to be received with the correct propagation and fades. also below is my original 1010 khz grab and each grab is over 45 mins
1010khz from myself & ken
1010khz perseus sdr & flag
1340 khz ..... this is another hard frequency for me due to the qrm on 1341 khz and i think i have only ever heard a cbc jingle in the splatter but nothing positive but as you can see again there is plenty of carriers to be seen and all it takes is a good fade to receive one of them again the grab was over 45 mins
weird conditions on mw this morning CFAM altona mb was in for most of the morning on 950 khz with classical music but nothing else of real interest coming in. the band was a bit noisey here and there was still quite a bit of euro splatter at 06.00 uc and i didnt notice any particualar peak this morning but while speaking to ken on the radio he was telling me it was quite good at 07.00 utc which i didnt record ah well there is always tommorow.
conditions this morning not as good as yesterday although some stong signals there was a few stations coming in all together and making the frequency sound like very loud mush so hard to id anything and today i am suffering from a cold so not really in the mood to sit and listen too long. i did have a ss station on 1070 at 05.31 utc which the carrier and audio had a distinctive warble on it so it has been sent to the guys on realdx but no replys yet.
950 WOBBLER .... again W. Curt Deegan has kindly sent me a reply on yesterdays reception
David,
A Wobbler has been heard here on 950 at times, though it was never so strong as the ones on 930 and 1100.
It is presumed to originate on one of two Radio Reloj stations on that channel. Which one is the Wobbler source has not been determined, or even if it is only one of them. Could be they both exhibit the phenomenon from time to time.
The RR station in Havana has the stronger transmission power though the lower power one in Mayari Arriba, SC, can also be heard here. Havana is on the west end of the island, across the Florida peninsula from me and harder to hear stations there. Mayari Arriba is on the east end of Cuba, a water path into my location, though that may not be an issue for nighttime propagation.
The Radio Reloj time ticks, top-of-the-minute time tone, and the Morse code 'RR' ID make those stations especially easy to identify. Add to that a Wobbler and RR stations really make their presence known.
I've not been checking 950 regularly and I'm surprised it was active enough to be heard across the ocean. I'll have to resume my monitoring of it, to see if that Wobbler has picked up steam.

i was checking my 06.00 utc recording and thought it sounded pretty average with the regulars coming in quite good but when i started listening to my 06.30 recording i noticed that most of the north americans etc had all but gone and the band was open quite good to mexico which i got 4 personal first"s
1590 XEVOZ Luz 15-90 mexico 06.40 1290 XEDA R TRECE mexico 06.29.33 1470 XEAI R FORMULA mexico 06.26 1500 XEDF R FORMULA mexico 06.30

there was some really strong signals noted between 06.30 - 06.50 utc BUT! most of them had constant music and very little talk but still got a few recordings to check
i cant decide if september was a good month or average month but i did get 6 personal firsts
WVNA tuscumbia al 5kw 1590 KWKH shreveport 1130 HIAK Radio Impactante Santo Domingo 1440 Radio LĂder, Arequipa peru 1240 Radio Libertad Arequipa Peru 1310 Radio Buenos Aires 1350
but these were hard work there was some days when signals were at local levels but from the regulars but i cant complain with 6 personal firsts and if i get that in october then i will be doing well and remember i am using an indoor flag antenna so really anything i get from the west is good for me.
this morning on mw was pretty average with 06.30 utc having the strongest signals ie again the chicago new york areas being the strongest.
claim or not to claim .....
CJVB vancouver on 1470 has 3 distinctive pips which can be before toth or after toth and i did get the pips just after 06.00 this morning i did get some chinese talk at around 05.52 but no id but as i said those 3 pips are distinctive with cjvb but is that good enough for a claim personally myself i wouldnt claim it but its good to see that the indoor flag is picking it up you can decide with the recording below i let the pips replay two times CJVB pips 1470 khz
