nothing to report since my last post and its more or less the common stations that have been received on MW and low vhf has been pretty down due to the drop in the SFI. once again my recordings failed this morning which is getting to be a pain in the ass as i have been enjoying a long lie in the morning but it seems i will have to get up early once again. i contacted the electric company regarding the dip when it rains and they said they would send out an engineer but i am still waiting so i will be back on the phone today.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI've been interested in DXing again after many yrs. I've always had the problem in regards to antennas as i can't fit any on the roof of the flats i live in. It didn't stop me yrs back with tvdxing and i still managed some distant signals abeit the usual ones like BRT and Iceland tv.
These days i guess it's harder because of all the interference and the Digital changeover. I have though, heard of people getting stuff on freeview UHF boxes and on DAB.
I like your blog because you show up some very interesting logs. So far i've only seen radio stuff as i've only recently found your site. It did get me interested in FM dxing but as i said i'm restricted and i also follow a Yahoo group on the subject.
Did you fit the filters for the Sony sb st 920 yourself? I saw one going for only around £20 recently but without filters. I'd give it a go if i had the knowhow but i don't have any sense with the techi side of things.
I bought a portable radio recently but only managed to get transmitters in the UK and i have a lot of pirate stations where i live in greater London. I've only had it a few weeks though.
Anyway. All the best Dxing.
hi my sony 920 was standard as i dont need very narrow filters as b2 is quite empty at my location. sorry to hear you can get any antennas on the flats but in sporadic e a simple dipole at a window will work fine and its better than having no antenna at all and this season dxer mark borthwick had some great results with b1 b2 on a simple dipole and if you search for him on youtube you will see what he gets with simple antennas. i havent had much to post the past week or so as conditions are very average at the moment .. cheers david
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI also have a scanner, Yupiteru 9000, had it yrs now and tuning knob has gone sporadic but can still use up and down keys.
I tried looking at the 30mhz frequencies you've been getting stuff on and can't get all the Russian and US signals you do probably because your base scanner is much better and you have a decent outdoor antenna.
PS..I'm a little interested in MW now because of you so i did a little Google aearch for something cheap for beginners. Came up with a a small Sony radio that's only about £15 on Amazon.
Good DXing.
my scanner is not the best but the antenna helps its a log periodic up around 40 feet on the roof
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the info.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
no problems glad to help ... feel free to ask .. cheers david
