conditions still very patchy up here in Scotland compared to what the rest of the UK is getting but i had a couple transatlantic openings on 55.250 with a few 60 Hz carriers coming in but far from video level. i received a couple of pictures from G0CHE Kev of his new 70 MHz LFA antenna which he has already commented its working fine and he has already had a few sporadic e contacts and meteor scatter contacts on 70 MHz and it looks a very well built antenna.
i wouldn't mind trying the LFA on A2 55.250 or A3 61.250 for transatlantic TV signals as i am sure the extra gain would help and going by reports of dxers on 50 & 70 MHz that are using the LFA it is a VERY low noise antenna which would also help but as for being a single band antenna it would mean another antenna on the roof of the house and i would need to get it far enough away from the log periodic as not to interact with it.

Hi David,
ReplyDeleteWhich HF receiver would you recommend if i were buying one second-hand from Ebay?
Cheers,
Simon
it really depends what you want and to me sdr radios are they way to go ... if you have the cash i would go for the perseus sdr with its 2 mhz recording but if its a traditional receiver you wont get much better than the aor 7030 but even the older types like the Yaesu FRG-7700 work quite well or the old yaesu frg 7 but it all really depends how much cash you want to spend ... back to the sdr the PMSDR that i use is very good and very cheap BUT! its certainly no plug and play sdr like the perseus and it takes a wee while to set it up the way you want it and it needs a preselector below 3 mhz ... hope this helps ... cheers david
ReplyDeleteThanks,
ReplyDeleteI'd much prefer a traditional one.
Thanks for the info..something under £250 is all i can afford really unless i can swap my D-100 as well to make up the price..I don't use it much these days.
Check out Lowe HF150 and HF 225/250
